Every update and the tools it added — and where to find them in the app. Newest first. After each update the app shows the same list.

0.9.9.263 — Rename on marking: four clear choices October 27, 2026

When a file is marked, it can keep its name, take the full exhibit name, Exhibit and the number, or the short form — set once for every job, changed for one job when needed.

Changed

When a file is marked, rename it: Don't rename · The full exhibit (Plaintiff's Exhibit 11) · Exhibit and number (Exhibit 11) · Short form (EX11, PX11, DX11). The old name and the short form still call the file up; Unmark puts the old name back; never two files with the same name.App Settings → General (every job) · Job Settings → Marking (this job only)

0.9.9.262 — The ID when a file is marked · sharing stays live October 27, 2026

Each job decides what a marked file's ID becomes — and two files never end up with the same ID. Sharing the Display keeps the computer awake.

New

Job Settings → Marking → When a file is marked, its ID: keep it · becomes the exhibit (EX11) · exhibit in front (EX11 Invoice). Defendant's → DX, Plaintiff's → PX. Unmark puts the old ID back.Job Settings → General → Marking

Important fix

Marking never makes a second file with the same ID: if another file is already EX11 (a client named theirs that), the marked one keeps its ID and a note says so.Mark (F9)

Changed

While the Display is shared, the computer and Valu-Present stay awake (no App Nap, no sleep), so the session stays live as long as the app is open — minimised or behind other windows too.Share the Display

0.9.9.261 — Share the Display: viewers stay in when they switch tabs October 27, 2026

A viewer who switches to another tab or app and comes back is joined again by itself — no more "connection lost" and Rejoin.

Important fix

Share the Display: browsers slow down or freeze a tab in the background, which stopped its heartbeat and the session dropped the viewer. Coming back now reconnects quietly with the same name (a short "Reconnecting…" note); only if the presenter is really gone does the page say so.the viewer page (upload the website zip) and the app

0.9.9.260 — Letter exhibits · sync without the questions · presenter names remembered October 27, 2026

Exhibits can be lettered (K, L, M…) and the next one follows on; syncing finds the testimony itself and only asks when it isn't sure; the lower-third names come back like the sticker names.

New

Exhibit letters: type K (or C-1) as the next number in the sticker setup — the next sticker is L (C-2), and so on through Z, AA, AB.Exhibit Marking → click the sticker → Next number
Lower third: the Title line and the Name remember what you typed before (▾), like the sticker names.Job Settings → Clear screen

Changed

Sync to the video: when the start and end of the testimony are clear and the transcript is clean, it syncs at once (a note says which lines). The window only opens when the start or end isn't clear — pick them in the transcript. No more boxes per video.Transcript ☰ → Sync to the video
Sync check → Accept: once a sync is accepted, the sure / unsure dots leave the transcript (hand stamps and untimed lines still show). ☰ → Show sync confidence dots brings them back.Transcript ☰

0.9.9.259 — The synced transcript as a .mdb · Remove a deposition from Files & Exhibits October 27, 2026

Every sync also writes the synced transcript database (.mdb, the file VALU-SYNC makes) into the job folder, so the sync can be used in any other job or program; and a deposition can be removed from the Files & Exhibits list.

New

After a sync, the synced transcript is also saved as <title>.mdb in the job folder (transcripts) — Info / MPEGS / Main, readable by VALU-SYNC and the players that read that format. Written on Mac, Windows and Linux alike.automatic after Sync to the video

0.9.9.258 — Bug reports that carry the evidence October 27, 2026

Help → Report a bug now writes a report file — your words, the Minutes, the last errors from the app, your computer and settings — so a problem seen in a courtroom can be fixed from the report alone.

New

Report a bug writes a report on your Desktop (what you typed, the Minutes of the open case, the last 50 errors, displays, settings — never passwords, documents or the share passcode) and shows it; drag it into the email that opens.Help → Report a bug…
Errors are kept in errors.log across restarts, so a crash on the day is still in the next report.automatic

0.9.9.257 — Your own viewer page · gentler Esc · faster saves on huge jobs October 26, 2026

The Share the Display viewer page is hosted by you, on any web host; Esc no longer closes the Display by default; saving a million-page job is instant.

Changed

Share the Display: there is no built-in viewer page any more. Save the 4 viewer page files, put them on a web host of your choice (it must be https), and type the address — then Anywhere (internet) sharing is on. Same room sharing needs nothing: the app serves the page itself.App Settings → Sharing the Display
Esc: one press clears the Counsel Table (and the Display shows the clear screen). It no longer closes the Display on a second press — close it with LIVE off or the Display window. The old twice-to-close choice is still there if you want it.App Settings → Presenting → Esc · Job Settings

0.9.9.256 — Audit fixes · the User Manual on the website October 26, 2026

A full pass through every tool before 1.0: a few things tidied, and the whole manual is now on danielholmstock.com.

Important fix

A witness asking for control of the Display is never hidden: the request banner now sits above the Clip Maker, dialogs and menus.Share the Display → ✋ request banner

Changed

Reminders like “Enter the client name first” or “Not presenting” fade on their own; only real problems stay on screen until you click them.Everywhere

0.9.9.255 — Share the Display: smoother control for the witness October 23, 2026

The witness sees when they're waiting, granted or denied, and can turn and scroll pages with the keys and the mouse wheel.

Changed

Request control: the witness's page says “Waiting for the tech…” until you answer, then “Control granted” (green) or “Request denied” (red, they can ask again).Viewer page → ✋ Request control

New

0.9.9.254 — Resume next time — like Safari October 23, 2026

No more question when a job opens: one tick decides.

Changed

Resume next time: tick it in the bottom bar (or the main menu) and every job opens where you left off — the tables, what each shows, and the session clock carries on. Not ticked: the job opens clean. 0.9.9.253 — Share the Display: split screens for the witness · sync engine 2.0.18 October 23, 2026

With two documents on the Display, the witness picks which side to turn — or turns both. Syncing follows VALU-SYNC 2.0.18's rules.

New

Split Display: when the Display shows two (or more) documents, the witness's tool bar shows Turning: Left | Right (or 1 2 3 4). The pane they are turning is lit in gold on their picture, and Page ▶, ◀ Page, zoom and Go to page work on that side only. All ◀ / All ▶ turn every pane together.Viewer page → tool bar (upload the new viewer page)
TEXT NOT FOUND IN AUDIO (amber): 5 or more spoken lines in a row that are in the transcript but not heard in the video (often an off-the-record call) are left without a timecode — never guessed — and listed. Click it to see the lines; it clears once you stamp them. A video with no sound at all is still red.Transcript → Sync result

Changed

Deposition sync uses the VALU-SYNC 2.0.18 rules: silence never decides "no audio" — pauses, exhibit reading and Zoom's gated audio are normal and no line near them loses its timecode. Silence must last 60 s before the engine skips it, and a short "Yes." in a quiet stretch is heard.Add → A Deposition… · Sync

Important fix

Jobs synced before this version are listened to again once on the next sync (the old silence rules could skip a short answer).Transcript → Sync

0.9.9.251 — Share the Display: fits any browser · floating tools · type your own role October 23, 2026

The viewer page fits small laptop screens, the witness's tools float where they want them, and the people list is alphabetical.

Changed

The viewer page fits the viewer's browser: the top bar wraps onto a second line instead of cutting buttons off, and the picture resizes to the space left.Viewer page (upload the new viewer page to your web host)

0.9.9.250 — Outline (BETA): the attorney's outline, with its documents in order October 22, 2026

Add the attorney's outline and every document it mentions becomes a chip you click to show — in order, beside History.

New

Outline (BETA): add the attorney's outline — Word, PDF, email (.eml), text, or pasted. Every Tab, exhibit number, ID, Bates number or file name it mentions becomes a chip: “Tab 1 – introduce” gives a Tab 1 chip, “Tab 1, page 3” a chip that opens page 3. Click a chip and it goes on the table you're on (in LIVE it shows right away); right-click for Open on current table or Open in new table. ◀ Back / Next ▶ step through the outline's documents in order, and shown ones get a green ✓.Add → Outline… (the Outline panel opens under History)
Deposition or trial outline: a deposition outline is one witness, section by section. A trial outline follows the order of witnesses (“Plaintiff calls Dr. Ortiz”, “Cross of Hale”): the panel shows the witness now and their exhibits, with Next witness ▶. A ✓ by the name means they're on the job's witness list.Add → Outline… → Deposition outline / Trial outline
Anything the outline mentions that matches no file (say “Exhibit 44”) shows in orange — click it and choose the file. Valu-Present remembers the link; the outline itself is never changed.Outline panel → orange chip

0.9.9.249 — Share the Display: fit to page and HI-RES October 22, 2026

Viewers see the page as large as their window allows, and can turn on HI-RES for sharper text.

New

Fit to page: viewers see just the page and its label bar, as large as their browser window allows — more than twice the size in a tall window. A Page / Screen switch at the top shows the whole Display when they want it; side-by-side, video and slides always show the whole Display.Viewer's top bar → Page / Screen

0.9.9.248 — Share the Display: one-click links, zoom for the witness, virtual display October 22, 2026

Invitations are one paste, the witness can zoom and scroll, and the session code lasts the day.

New

One-click links: the invitation link carries the passcode (option, on by default), so a click plus their name gets them in. One invitation box with Copy invitation — the click-to-join link, plus the plain link, session code and passcode for anyone who types them. Pastes cleanly into Zoom chat or an email.Display window → Share the Display
Witness control adds Zoom in / out, Fit page, and the mouse wheel: scroll a zoomed page up and down, or a firm scroll turns the page. Anything you do still takes control back.
Same code and passcode for the job for 24 hours: close Valu-Present by accident and share again — the invitation still works, and viewers get a Rejoin. After 24 hours (or New code) it is forgotten. The passcode is kept in your computer's keychain only.
Viewers see your own clear screen (logo, presenter name) when nothing is up, with a small “Waiting for the next document…” tag.
Save viewer page files… (App Settings → Sharing the Display): the three files and a how-to, for a firm that hosts the page on its own web server or GitHub.

0.9.9.247 — Share the Display: video with sound · witness control on request October 22, 2026

Clips play with sound in the viewer's browser, and the witness can ask to turn the pages.

New

Share the Display: video and audio clips play live in the viewer's browser, with sound. Each viewer has their own sound button, volume and mute (sound starts after one click — browsers require it). Documents stay as sharp still pages. On a relay connection viewers see still pictures and a note.Display window → Share the Display
Request control: a witness taps ✋ Request control in their browser; a banner at the top of the app shows their name with Allow and Deny. Control means turning pages and Go to page ___. Marking (pen, highlight, arrow) is a separate Mark tick per person. Anything you do to the Display takes control back at once, and the witness is told to ask again. Everything is logged.
Viewers can change their role after joining (top of their screen); everyone's list updates.
App Settings → Sharing the Display: the viewer page address (empty = the Valu-Present page; a firm can use its own copy on another GitHub or its own website) and an optional own relay.App Settings → Presenting → Sharing the Display

0.9.9.246 — Simpler sticker settings · Share panel pops out October 22, 2026

The sticker settings follow the sticker from top to bottom, and the Share panel can sit on its own monitor.

Changed

Sticker settings in the order of the sticker: Type, Layout, Lettering, Header, Witness name, Under the line, Color. The line under the sticker is always your Entity name (the court reporter choices are gone), and the witness name is no longer put in front of the designation.

New

Share the Display: the Who's watching panel pops out (↗) into its own window, so it can sit on another monitor. Closing that window puts it back on the bottom bar.Share panel → ↗

Important fix

0.9.9.245 — Sharing in the Display window · Finals folder up front October 22, 2026

Turn on sharing where you pick the Display, and choose where marked exhibits go at the top of the sticker settings.

Changed

Share the Display now lives in the Display window: two switches — Same room (this network) and Anywhere (internet). Judge, counsel and the witness can watch the Display live in a web browser — same room or anywhere — and a job opens where you left it.

New

Share the Display (BETA): judge, counsel and the witness watch the Display live in any web browser — nothing to install. In the same room they use a link to your computer; anywhere else, a link plus a session code and passcode. Each person signs in with a full legal name (role optional, e.g. Witness, Counsel for Plaintiff, Judge) and everyone sees who is watching. Only the Display is sent — never your private tables. The picture goes computer to computer, encrypted; if a network blocks that, it goes through the relay (slower).Menu → Remote → Share the Display…

Important fix

0.9.9.240 — Tables: Ctrl/⌘ shortcuts · quieter tabs October 21, 2026

Switch Tables with Ctrl+1 … Ctrl+6 (⌘1 … ⌘6 on Mac). Tabs you are not on are just a label.

Changed

Switch Tables with Ctrl+1 … Ctrl+6 on Windows and Linux, ⌘1 … ⌘6 on Mac — like browser tabs. 📌 Home table is Ctrl/⌘+9. Case File is back on Alt+3.Settings → Shortcuts
A tab you are not on shows only its label — the exhibit, the page and its Bates number — with no buttons. Click it and it opens to full width with LIVE, SHOW and ✕. Its number still turns red when that table is LIVE and gold when it is shown.

Important fix

The LIVE button on top (and F5) works on the table you are on: with another table on the Display, it now puts this table LIVE. It used to turn LIVE off and close the Display. SHOW (F6) works the same way.

New

Tables: the Counsel Table now has browser-style tabs — Table 1, Table 2 … up to six. Click a tab to work on it; only that table is shown to you. Each tab has its own LIVE and SHOW buttons, so the jury sees whatever you last sent while you prepare the next table in private. The LIVE light follows the table on the Display. 0.9.9.144 — Find: OCR only when you say so · Valu-Present for Linux October 14, 2026

Normal PDFs search instantly. A PDF that is only pictures of pages asks before reading.

Changed

Find in document: a normal PDF searches straight away, as in any PDF reader. A PDF that is only pictures of pages (scans, flattened productions) shows “Needs OCR to search — read it? Yes / No” next to Find. Yes reads the page on screen first and shows its matches, then the rest. The words are kept in the job, so each document is read only once, even after reopening. The original file is never changed.

New

Linux: Valu-Present is available as an AppImage (runs from anywhere) and a .deb installer for Zorin OS 17 and Ubuntu 22.04 or later. Cases, layouts and shortcuts are the same on Mac, Windows and Linux.Download page
Linux: the Display goes full-screen on the monitor you choose, and follows a plug or unplug, on both Xorg and Wayland sessions.
Linux: the VALU-SYNC 2.0 engine, clip export and the A.I. all run on the CPU; Word, Excel and PowerPoint previews use LibreOffice (apt, snap or flatpak) when it is installed. Captions build the Speech Engine on your computer the first time (a few minutes).

0.9.9.143 — Better Find · Saved Screens to PDF · starting layouts October 14, 2026

Find in a document now steps through every match, Saved Screens can be saved as a PDF, and new jobs start with the layout you choose.

Changed

Find in document: Enter goes to the next match (not the next page), across pages. Words the PDF stores in pieces, and curly quotes, are found too. A scanned document shows “Read the pages”: click it and it can be searched. Find now searches only the document on screen (the All documents tick is gone; use Search Everything to search the whole case).
💾 Save layout asks: update the layout in use, or save as a new layout. The job always keeps what's on screen.
Previously marked also saves a plain copy (no sticker) in the job's Finals folder, named like “Previously Marked Defendant's Exhibit 4”, with the witness added when given.
The Go To box under the Counsel Table is gone. Call up with X, and type a page number on the page chip.

New

Export Saved Screens as a PDF: right-click a saved screen → Export as PDF…, or Export all saved screens as PDF…. Each page is the screen exactly as saved (zoom, highlights, callouts) with its code and name.
Starting layout for new jobs: choose one for depositions and one for trials in App Settings → Layout. A new job opens with it (or the clean layout) instead of the last job's layout.App Settings → Layout → Starting layout for new jobs
Sticker text comes back: the name, the agency band and custom sticker text you typed before are a ▾ click away. While marking, the bar has a Name field with names you typed before.

0.9.9.142 — Marking at a glance October 13, 2026

See how many exhibits are marked and how many are left, and previously marked exhibits stand out.

New

Previously marked exhibits have their own colour and a PREV tag in Files & Exhibits. The Exhibit Marking panel has a Previously marked… button (Shift+F9). Pick its colour in App Settings → Files & Exhibits → Exhibit stamping.App Settings → Files & Exhibits

Changed

The Mark button takes your sticker's colour. Batch stamp moved off the Exhibit Marking panel; it's still in the menus and in Stamp Exhibits.
Exhibit Details: a document already on the Display shows “✓ On the Display” instead of “Show again”. If you've changed it on the Counsel Table, the button says “Show changes”.

0.9.9.141 — Exhibit stamping settings in one place · Previously marked IDs never clash October 13, 2026

The stamping options and the open-files option are now in App Settings → Files & Exhibits.

Changed

App Settings → Files & Exhibits now holds “Word, Excel & other files” (open them in their own program) and a new Exhibit stamping card. The card has: Stamping sets the ID (EX1 / DX4 / PX12), Previously marked sets the ID (your own pattern), and Previously marked renames the File Name. These options apply to every job; they are no longer in Job Settings.

New

Previously marked asks for the witness or deposition, so Smith 12 and Johns 12 get their own IDs (PrevSmith12, PrevJohns12). An ID already used by another file is refused, with a note to add the name.

Previously marked exhibits: right-click a file → Previously marked…, or press Shift+F9. Pick the exhibit type and number: the ID becomes Prev12 (PrevDX4 for Defendant’s 4). No sticker is added and no number is used up. App Settings can also rename the File Name with your own pattern (off by default).
Stamping can set the exhibit’s ID: Exhibit 1 → EX1, Defendant’s 4 → DX4, Plaintiff’s 12 → PX12, with no spaces. It is off by default (App Settings). Unmark puts the old ID back.

Changed

An exhibit that is already marked can’t be marked again by accident. You’ll see a message with an Unmark button instead.
Each job opens with its own layout: panels, panel windows and tool groups. That layout wins over App Settings. Panel windows also stay remembered when you quit.
Word, Excel and other non-PDF files no longer open in their own program on call-up unless you turn that on.App Settings → General → “Open them automatically in their own program”
File Names in Files & Exhibits are yellow by default (a darker amber on the light theme) so they stand apart from the ID.
Display label: your text sits left or center (the only choices), and “Valu-Present” always stays at the right end, so centered text stays centered.

Important fix

Rotate all pages and save on a marked exhibit: the sticker now turns with the page and stays in the same spot, and saved screens keep what they showed.
Zoom: a quick drag, or a flat swipe along a line of text, now always zooms.

0.9.9.136.2 — Clearer update notes October 9, 2026

The update history is rewritten: what changes how you work is explained; small fixes are listed as minor.

Changed

What’s New and the website’s update history now explain each release in plain words — New, Changed and Important fix — with small fixes rolled into one line.Help → What’s New · Help → All updates

0.9.9.136.1 — Re-syncing keeps your first sync · History finds what was called out October 9, 2026

Re-syncing a deposition no longer overwrites the sync you already have, and History can now be searched by what you called out.

Changed

Syncing a deposition that is already synced now creates a new copy — “Name (new sync)”, in the same witness folder. Your existing sync stays exactly as it was, so you can compare the two and keep whichever you want (rename or delete the other). A deposition that is not synced yet is synced in place, as before.

New

History search finds callouts and highlights by what they cover — “1st paragraph”, “footer 117”, or any word inside the marked text. The entry opens on the matching step; click it to put that screen back. Search Everything finds them too.History search box · Search Everything (Ctrl/⌘+Shift+G)
History shows how each screen reached the Display: L = Live, S = Show.

0.9.9.136 — New sync engine — VALU-SYNC 2.0 October 9, 2026

Syncing a transcript to its video now uses the VALU-SYNC 2.0 engine: more exact line times, and it tells you where the recording has no sound instead of guessing.

New

The VALU-SYNC 2.0 engine lines up every transcript line with the moment its first word is spoken. Lines that are in the transcript but were never said are flagged rather than squeezed in. It runs on your computer; the first sync downloads it once (about 100 MB, one click).Sync a deposition
No-audio check: stretches of the video with no sound are found and shown in bold red (e.g. NO AUDIO DETECTED 0:00:00–0:26:26 · pages 4–20). Lines in those stretches get no time — never a guess. A silent microphone channel or a video with no sound at all is reported too.
Manual Sync — play, listen, mark: click the line you hear and press Space as it is spoken; the next line is selected for you. Ctrl/⌘+Z undoes. After three marks, Sync Forward re-lines up the rest of that video from your marks. Lines you mark by hand are never moved by any later sync.Transcript: M, or right-click a line
Right-click any line: Sync Forward from here, or Re-sync the selected lines from the audio.
Find words on the Display: Alt+F searches the document on the Counsel Table; Alt+Shift+F searches the document the witness is seeing — its page turns and the words are outlined there.

Changed

History describes what you marked: “Callout — 1st paragraph …”, “Highlight — line starting Q. Did you …”, “Callout — footer · 117”.
Typing a page number: the Go to page box now waits for Enter (Esc cancels).
Exhibit labels can carry a small “display screen by Valu-Present” in the far corner — on by default, off in Settings → Exhibit Labels. It is on the screen only, never on stamped exhibits.

0.9.9.135.1 — Stamp Exhibits — a cleaner step-by-step October 8, 2026

The Stamp Exhibits steps are simpler to follow from start to finish.

Changed

Stamp Exhibits is now one of the three choices in New Case (Ctrl+N), next to Deposition and Trial / Arbitration.
Batch stamping walks you through it: where the finished files go → the full sticker settings → the files → the list to check → Batch process all. When it is done: open the folder, start another batch, go back to the start screen, or quit.
Each stamp job starts with a clean slate — your sticker design and company carry over; the reporter, CSR and job details start blank.

0.9.9.135 — Stamp Exhibits: Live or Batch · numbers read from file names October 8, 2026

Stamping starts with one question — Live (during a session) or Batch (a set of files) — and the exhibit numbers come from the file names.

New

Live: name the session and where it is saved, then bring in the documents. The exhibit numbers in the file names are used; if the names are not consistent, the files are numbered 1, 2, 3.
Batch reads exhibit numbers anywhere in a file name — at the start, at the end, after EX / Exhibit / PX — and gaps are fine (21, 32–35, 80…). Dates and Bates numbers are ignored. Files with no number or a duplicate are listed so you can rename them and try again, or number them in order.

0.9.9.134.2 — Name an exhibit without a sticker October 8, 2026

For exhibits with an objection pending.

New

Name as exhibit only: right-click a file to make a copy named as the exhibit and use the number — without a sticker. Add the sticker later (same number, same file) or unmark it.Right-click a file

Changed

Finished batch files go next to the originals in a MARKED FINALS folder by default, or a folder you choose.

Important fix

Batch stamping no longer reads a date at the start of a file name as the exhibit number.

0.9.9.134.1 — Word, Excel and PowerPoint stay Word, Excel and PowerPoint October 8, 2026

Marked Office files are never turned into PDFs.

Changed

Marking a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file always puts the sticker into a copy of that same file type — never a PDF — so the file of record keeps its format.

New

Files that cannot hold a sticker (old .doc / .xls / .ppt, Pages, Keynote, RTF, email) get the renamed copy, the sticker as a picture at its real size, and short steps for adding it in that program.
Marked files show in red in Files & Exhibits with their exhibit number, so you can see at a glance what is done and what is left.

0.9.9.134 — Exhibit types, your own sticker design, smarter numbering October 8, 2026

Stickers for every kind of case, your own sticker artwork, and exhibit numbers taken from file names or the transcript.

New

Exhibit types for every case — Plaintiff’s, Defendant’s, Joint, Claimant’s, Respondent’s, Petitioner’s, Third-party, Court’s, Government — each in its standard color, printed long (PLAINTIFF’S EXHIBIT 1) or short (PX 1), with the witness name in front if you want it.Job Settings → Exhibit Stickers
The saved file name is set separately from the sticker — the sticker can say SMITH EXHIBIT 1 while the file is “Exhibit 1.pdf”.
The sticker’s bottom band can show the agency, the court reporter and CSR number, or both, plus a case number line.
Import your own sticker design; Valu-Present finds where the number and date go and uses it for live, batch and Office stamping.
Batch stamping can take the numbers from the file names, or from a deposition’s exhibit index — and then links each exhibit in the testimony where it is first mentioned.
Exporting clip videos shows progress with Cancel.

Changed

Designations: the party is asked once (for an imported list, or your first one by hand); every new designation then follows that side until you switch.

Important fix

Opening or closing a panel no longer changes the size of your other panels, in any job.

0.9.9.133.2 — Switch any job to stamping October 8, 2026

Finished a deposition without stamping? Stamp it afterwards.

New

Any job can switch to Stamp Exhibits mode: it sets the MARKED folder and opens batch stamping with every unstamped file ticked.+ Add → Stamp Exhibits mode

Changed

Stamp Exhibits mode shows only what stamping needs; leave it any time from + Add.
