Valu-Present for iPad — Privacy Policy
Effective October 23, 2026
- Your case files stay on your iPad — and in your own iCloud Drive only if you turn sync on.
- No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. I don’t collect or sell any data.
- When you share the Display, only pictures of the Display travel, encrypted, to the people you invite.
Who this covers
This policy covers the Valu-Present for iPad app (“the app”), made by Daniel Holmstock (“I”, “me”). Valu-Present for Mac and Windows is a separate product.
What the app stores, and where
Everything you put in the app — cases, exhibits, depositions, transcripts, marks, stickers, notes and settings — is stored on your iPad, inside the app. I have no server that receives your case files, and I can’t see them.
iCloud sync (optional)
If you turn on sync for a case, the app copies that case to your own iCloud Drive so your other iPads signed in to the same Apple ID can use it. That copy is held by Apple under your Apple ID and Apple’s privacy policy; I have no access to it. You can stop syncing a case, or turn iCloud sync off for the whole iPad in Settings, at any time.
Showing the Display
- HDMI and AirPlay send the Display straight to the screen you connect.
- Wi-Fi Display serves pictures of the Display from your iPad to browsers on your own local network that open the link (it contains a room key). Your case files are not served; only a clip that is playing is sent so it can play there with sound.
- Share the Display (over the internet) lets the people you invite watch in a web browser. Messages are sealed with a key made from the room code and passcode (AES-256-GCM) before they leave your iPad, and pass through public meeting-point (MQTT) servers that can carry but cannot read them. Pictures of the Display then go device-to-device over encrypted WebRTC, using public STUN servers (Google, Cloudflare) only to find a route. Viewers type a name so you can see who is watching; that name is shown to you and kept only for the session.
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera — only to scan paper exhibits into PDFs when you choose Scan.
- Speech recognition — only to line a transcript up with its video when you choose to sync a deposition. This is done on the iPad.
- Local network — only for Wi-Fi Display and same-room sharing.
- Files and Photos — only the files and photos you pick to import or export.
Purchases
Subscriptions and free trials are handled by Apple through the App Store. I receive no payment card details. Apple’s privacy policy applies to purchases.
Analytics, ads and tracking
The app contains no advertising, no third-party analytics and no tracking, and does not use your data to track you across apps or websites. Crash reports are only shared with me if you choose to share them with developers in your iPad’s settings, and they come through Apple without identifying you.
Children
The app is a professional tool for legal work and is not directed to children.
Deleting your data
Delete a case in the app, or delete the app, to remove its data from the iPad. Synced cases can be removed from iCloud in the app (Stop syncing) or in the Files app ▸ iCloud Drive.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
